Hello, I am Sonia Ledo and I am honored to have taken first place in the California State Assembly District 15 primary race. Now we approach the general runoff election on November 5th, a crucial election that will determine the direction of California.

I am not a career politician. Instead, I bring a fresh perspective and a genuine commitment to solving our most urgent problems and serving the best interests of our district.

Professionally, I have been a self-employed businesswoman for over 30 years. I hold a bachelor’s degree in pre-law, a California Real Estate License since 1991, and formerly a mortgage lending license. I have also worked special projects for Napa County’s Health and Human Services Alcohol & Drug Services, including working closely with the Drug Court Commissioner to implement an effective tracking tool for the Drug Court Program, a program I support wholeheartedly. I am endorsed by the late Chris Carlson, former Supervising Deputy District Attorney, Sacramento County, for my belief in the drug court model for rehabilitation of criminally justice involved individuals.

I am dedicated to making tough decisions to improve our quality of life by addressing with policy our increased crime, taxes and cost of living that continues to drive people and business away. I will represent you with fairness, transparency, and a strong work ethic on all issues ensuring that the voices of our community are heard and valued.

As a single mother of four adult sons, including autistic twins, I understand the importance of compassion, resilience, and determination in facing life's challenges. I have first-hand experience navigating the complexities of raising children with disabilities. I understand the challenges families face, such as initial diagnosis, navigating childcare, IEPs, behavioral therapies, and adult disability programs, while balancing work and long-term care concerns. I will be a fierce advocate for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

As an involved member of my community, I’ve volunteered at the Food Bank with my sons, provided meals to those in need on Christmas morning, and served as Treasurer for various organizations, including the Women’s Council of Realtors. I have also volunteered as Team Manager for the local Challenger Baseball League, giving those with disabilities including my autistic twins an opportunity to play baseball.

My personal experiences have shaped my perspective and drive to advocate for policies that support families like mine, and I am committed to being a voice for all members of our community.

My journey is deeply rooted in the ethical values instilled by my immigrant parents who left corrupt and oppressive governments in Nicaragua and Cuba to build a better life here in California. With limited education, my mother raised 5 children while working at the See's Candies factory in South San Francisco. My father is a proud United States Army Veteran. From a young age, I learned the value of hard work, strong ethics, and working collaboratively.

Born and raised in San Francisco, I've resided in Contra Costa County for over three decades. Contra Costa is where I raised my four sons, built my business from scratch and where you can find me hiking the beautiful open spaces with my dog. I am deeply connected to the diverse communities that make up our district in Antioch, Crockett, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Pittsburg, Brentwood, Clayton and other unincorporated areas.

I pledge to represent you with fairness, transparency, and a strong work ethic, ensuring that your voice is heard and valued. I am honored by the opportunity to earn your trust and support as we work together to build a brighter future for California.

Respectfully, SONIA LEDO
